NGAL overview

The gelatinase related lipid delivery protein (NGAL) is a small molecule protein expressed in neutrophils. NGAL will be expressed in renal tubular epithelial cells in large quantities and released to urine and blood within 2 hours of acute renal injury. It is significantly increased when sepsis is combined, which has the characteristics of quick response, high specificity and small influence by other factors. Therefore, it is used as a biomarker of early sensitive acute renal injury, and can also be used to predict the diagnosis of sepsis. High concentration NGAL can be detected in urine and blood of patients with chronic kidney disease caused by many diseases, so it is also used for diagnosis and monitoring of chronic renal disease.
